See the joy in Liam’s eyes as he is grasping a ball with his right hand for the first time. By the time this cute fellow grows up, he will have a bionic hand that will be connected to his neural-system and be indistinguishable from his biological body; but for now all Liam cares about is being able to play ball.
I met a little girl with a robot pinky finger once. I was a councilor at a summer camp and she came up to me and this other councilor and told us to feel both her pinkies. We decided to play along and when the pinkies felt different it blew our minds. She told us her story and it turns out she had been in a car accident when she was little and it ripped her pinky finger off and now she has a robot pinky that looks exactly like a normal finger. It was amazing. But apparently she was bullied in school and kids used to throw coins and magnets at her to see if they’d stick and they’d call her mean, robot-y names, and I was like WHAT. HOW DOES THAT NOT MAKE YOU THE MOST POPULAR PERSON IN SCHOOL?? But anyway, the three of us talked about Harry Potter and camp and robots and she thanked us afterwards for making her feel cool for the first time in her life and then walked off and me and the other councilor just looked at each other and our little hearts broke and thinking about it still makes me well up and that’s it that’s my story you’re welcome tumblr.
